about

At the start of 2020, I was invited to make the sounds for a rhubarb shed installation created by the artist Tony Wade for the Wakefield Rhubarb Festival. Tony worked with local people to create an environment of glowing rhubarb lanterns which were combined with growing rhubarb and a constantly changing soundtrack which I made. All the sounds were created from recordings of forced rhubarb growing in the dark. The shed had three spaces with the sounds playing continuously for the duration of the festival. This version simulates a journey through the different spaces and is in three corresponding sections ...

1: Sparse 2: Rhubarb Conversations 3: Waves

Many thanks to Tony Wade and to Heidi Johnson formerly of HCMF who facilitated the original recordings. Thanks also to Pete Stollery (Aberdeen University) for mentoring in the art of multichannel wizardry
